Part of the journey is the end. AVENGERS: ENDGAME is now in theaters. After two viewings, the only thing I can do is do my best to depict why you should see it and how you should prepare beforehand. Answer: you really can’t. I can’t handle ENDGAME’s levels of epic proportions and I doubt you’ll be able to either. That being said, here’s my AVENGERS: ENDGAME review. Of course, there will be no spoilers ahead.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME Review: The Plot

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR sees the Avengers losing and losing hard. Thanos succeeds, wiping out half of all life in the universe, including several of our favorite heroes. Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, and Hulk remain, along with Rocket and War Machine on Earth. Tony, who went to space to fight Thanos, survived along with Nebula. The trailer for ENDGAME also confirms that Hawkeye is surviving as well. Everyone else turns to dust.

The start for AVENGERS: ENDGAME takes place right after these events. They form a plan to bring back those they lost. They haven’t moved on and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. It doesn’t seem like it’s possible, but the plot is even more incredible and dynamic than that of INFINITY WAR. The stakes are even higher, the emotional beats even stronger. ENDGAME’s plot is so crazy that you’ll feel physically and emotionally drained in the best way possible.

The Characters

The next focus for this AVENGERS: ENDGAME review will be the outstanding characters. AVENGERS: ENDGAME follows the surviving Avengers and their plan to save their friends and loved ones. The original 6 Avengers are alive, albeit very much different than when they were first assembled back in 2012.

They’ve gone through a lot of different changes in the last decade. Also, they’ve gone through several different crises/threats together, becoming a family. Furthermore, just like any family, they clash and fight (CIVIL WAR). Despite that, they come together regardless of their differences in order to attempt to make their family whole again.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME features so many twists and surprises for all its characters, while at the same time keeping most of them so true to form. The MCU’s greatest strength has always been its ability to bring all of their amazing characters together in new and exciting ways. Their development in ENDGAME is also pretty awesome too. Some characters who you thought would want to bring people back asap have some initial resistance. Some have moved on from Thanos’ Decimation, while others have not. It’s super cool to see how they all come together despite their various responses after said devastation.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME Review: A Tone Of Loss, Finality, and Redemption

Let’s talk about the tone next for our AVENGERS: ENDGAME Review. The tone of ENDGAME is one that is comparably darker than the rest of its MCU counterparts. It begins with those surviving having to deal with an insane amount of loss and feelings of failure. Even so, the film’s tone transitions into that of a desire for a possible second chance and a quest for redemption. Meanwhile, its antagonist Thanos contradicts it with his own actions, which seem to be devastatingly inevitable and final.

All that being said, despite the film’s darker tone, it still has those light and humorous moments that come with a Marvel film. It’s still going with that signature MCU flair and style. You’ll be amused just as much as you will be worried about whether or not the Avengers will succeed or fail.

Satisfying Closing Arcs and Resolutions As The Infinity Saga Ends

After AVENGERS: ENDGAME, the Infinity Saga is coming to a close. As a result, ENDGAME is unable to just conclude like a normal movie. No, it has to cover a lot more ground, concluding a decade’s worth of narratives and arcs over 22 films. Seems like a tall order? Absolutely. Is AVENGERS: ENDGAME successful in this endeavor? Hell yes.

There are so many epic, satisfying, and wonderful resolutions to the MCU in this film. Without giving anything away, all I will say is that this unreal movie carries and wraps up so many things for a variety of arcs and characters and it does so perfectly. Some of these resolutions conclude things that started all the way back to the MCU’s first phase! It’s outstanding and incredible. AVENGERS: ENDGAME is the best closing chapter in this amazing universal saga that anyone could ever hope for.

Minor Drawbacks

While they are minor, there are some drawbacks that should be mentioned in this AVENGERS: ENDGAME review. Some character arcs, while surprising and good for the film, seem somewhat odd as viewed within the grander context of the MCU. Some might also say that certain characters are only used as a plot device and don’t get as much time as some would hope. Furthermore, there are some logic issues with the narrative. Not that they are inherently illogical.

It’s just that there is some lack of explanation. Now, I will say that in my mind these drawbacks don’t ruin the film, but they are drawbacks that are worth noting. And that’s all I have to say about that without spoiling it. #ThanosStillDemandsMySilence #Don’tSpoilTheEndgame

How I Know ENDGAME Is Amazing On A Personal Level

Here’s how I know ENDGAME is the pinnacle of the MCU. When my family saw INFINITY WAR, my dad, who usually struggles to stay awake during movies, was alert for the whole film. Amazingly, INFINITY WAR generated excitement from him, with a specific note to Thor’s epic entrance to the Battle of Wakanda.

All I can say is this: we saw ENDGAME, and this man was on the edge of his seat, cheering and clapping like he’s never done before for multiple incredible moments this film offers. Sure, you probably don’t know my dad, but if you did, you’d understand how much impact and value this film has. Take your family and friends to see this one. I did, and it makes the experience that much more incredible. The first time I saw ENDGAME I cried tears of joy and sadness, got excited, anxious, hopeful, vindicated and satisfied, laughing as well.

With my second viewing, none of those feelings were diminished. Even while knowing what was going to happen I still had all those same feelings with the same intensity.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME Review: This is the MCU Magnum Opus

For my AVENGERS: ENDGAME review, I will end on this note: this film is the magnum opus of the MCU. Sure, the MCU features some great and incredible films and will continue to do so. However, I sincerely doubt any Marvel film while ever hitting the same epic levels of culminating grandeur. This film is a piece of cinematic and pop culture history. Anyone should be not only excited to see this movie but proud to be a part of this fantastic event. AVENGERS: ENDGAME won’t meet your expectations. It will go past exceeding them to the point where you will question them for days as to how this film even exists and how you were able to see it in your lifetime.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME Review

Thank you to Kevin Feige, Russo Bros. and Marvel Studios. Thanks to the incredible cast and crew. Lastly, thank you Marvel Comics and Stan Lee. AVENGERS: ENDGAME is better and greater than I ever dreamed it could be.

My Rating: 9.5/10

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is now in theaters! Go see it now! If you already have… don’t spoil it and see it again! If you have already seen it again, see it a third time and a time after that!
