Viewers of the show fell in love with the world, the characters, and the immense amount of death. The show took pop culture by storm and that is exactly what the Star Wars franchise needs. Regardless of what you think of the last season of Game of Thrones, the creators of the show brought a world that could only be imagined in one’s brain to life on the screen. That is such a difficult task to perform and these two men did it. They even managed to finish the show with an uncomplete book which George R. R. Martin has yet to finish. To craft such a wonderful show around merely thoughts or notes is an amazing task. Now that season eight is over, the GoT writers are working on their Star Wars trilogy which I am exceptionally excited about because of the timeframe it potentially could take place in and because it’s what the franchise needs. Courtesy of HBO Out with the Old and In with the New For some, the most recent Star Wars movies have not been the greatest. SOLO did not meet Disney’s expectations, even though the film was remarkable, and THE LAST JEDI was met with great animosity. Primarily, it was targeted towards director, Rian Johnson. People believe Johnson ruined aspects of the franchise with severe changes to the universe. Regardless of your take on the most recent movies, I believe many can agree the Skywalker saga has gone on long enough. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited for the last installment of the saga, however, I am so ready to never see the Skywalker family again. Almost every portion of Star Wars content that releases is oriented around this family. Instead of seeing this family again in a trilogy, I would rather much see new places, new characters, and a completely different plot. I believe the GoT writers can bring that to the table. Their work on Game of Thrones was excellent and I believe if they are given full creative control, then they can craft a brand new story that will blow all of us away. The GoT Writers’ Potential Trilogy If you have been a fan of Star Wars for some time then you will know of the Old Republic timeline. This time period is an age before the events featuring any Skywalker take place. The Sith are as populated as the Jedi during this prequel era making it an intense galaxy to live in. Kathleen Kennedy, the head of Lucasfilm, did state an Old Republic project was in the works in an interview with MTV News. There is no word on what this project might be, but some believe it may be what the GoT writers are working on. Courtesy of BioWare This time period would definitely fit into their wheelhouse. GAME OF THRONES gave the two men experience in dealing with the politics of a nation. So, that would translate well to that of the galaxy Star Wars fans know and love. It is a significant upgrade, but their writing style would fit the time period. Additionally, they’ve written large scale battles so we may even see something along the lines of that with the Jedi and Sith. Benioff and Weiss would most certainly translate the comics, novels or even games well. They have a knack for translating words into a world many would be able to recognize. The GoT Writers Know how to Bring a World to Life The GoT writers have successfully created a world rich with characters, places, and lore with the source material to go off of. However, George R. R. Martin has yet to finish the books so the writers had to create a story from thoughts and notes. That is quite impressive on their part. The same goes for the Star Wars universe. Disney threw out everything except the movies and THE CLONE WARS television series. Since then, they’ve added to the newfound canon through shows, movies, books, and comics. For some of these mediums, fan-favorite characters and lore have come back from the continuity purge. Admiral Thrawn is a great example. What this means for the GoT writers is they will have a library of source material to pull from at their will. Of course, they can pull as much or as little as they want, but it still allows for a starting place which lets them shine the brightest in their work. Benioff and Weiss have continuously shown they can create a compelling world through content that already has a place. Star Wars will be no different. The two writers will have creative liberties with the world, but those liberties are what make their Star Wars movies different from others. Courtesy of Lucasfilm Fans shouldn’t want a rehashing of the original movies. They should want a different way of telling a Star Wars story. ROGUE ONE and SOLO did this really well and I personally believe are the strongest of the most recent movies. I am positive the GoT writers will give us characters to fall in love with. Plus, their attention to the plot will give viewers exactly what we are wanting. Oh, and I am sure they will take us to new and old places Star Wars fans will want to travel to. I believe this because they have done it before with Game of Thrones. Star Wars is a much bigger world which would allow them to flourish even further. The End of Skywalker I understand some readers do not have the same perspective on the Skywalker saga as I do, but I believe we can all agree on the fact that the GoT writers are going to create something different and new from other Star Wars movies. That is what the franchise needs, a new take. They will have their own creative liberties but will be limited to the universe they are working in. It’s important to have established boundaries and Star Wars is surely a universe to have them. Their outside perspective and experience will give them the knowledge they need to create a stellar Star Wars trology. Even though we won’t know the characters we can still fall in love with them the same way we did with the original.
