Arkham Asylum, because it inspired me in story as well as in amazing and innovative artwork. If you could have one superpower what would it be? Telekinesis What comics make you happy? The kind that are stylistic stand-outs in story or visuals. Also, I’m vain, so if the cover art and the inside art aren’t at least cohesive, I toss it aside. Which comic book characters do you most admire? Hawkeye, Batman, and Death (the Sandman). Because Hawkeye is the most believable, “average Joe” hero to me, Batman the most relatable with my angst, and Death for teaching me how to live. Which comic book characters do you most despise? Anyone vacuous, superficial or completely ignorant of their own selves. Also characters that are too easily compromised by emotional weakness. (*cough* Cyclops *cough*) What is the quality you most like in a creator (writer or artist)? For a writer, I love when it’s an idea or a universe that I would never even think to create. For an artist, I am a sucker for fantastic use of watercolor (or anything emulating it) and smart panel planning. When it reads more like a storyboard for a film, it means the writer and the artist reached each other in telling a story together. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? “Retroactively” “in lieu of” “uuum…” “in terms of” “like” Which comic book character would you most easily fall in love with? Wolverine. Hypermasculine with the capacity to love as well as having an explosive anger and need for vengeance. Like me! Which creator talent would you most like to have? To play music or write comedy or to be a voice actor. For a someone specific, I’d love to have Neil Gaiman’s ability to be prolific, Ben Templesmith’s sick sense of humor, and Jhonen Vasquez’ straight up madness. If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing (character or creator), what would it be? A kid going to the assassin school in Deadly Class. What fictional universe would you most like to live? One that I created. What do you most value in your friends? Brutal honesty. Who are your favorite writers? Neil Gaiman, Jeff Lemire, Matt Fraction, Rick Remender, Ben Templesmith. Who is your hero of comic book fiction? Grant Morrison and Ben Templesmith. They’re both punks. I don’t know if I can say that anyone in a comic book story is my ride-or-die bitch/hero. Which comic book figure do you most identify with? Tim in POLARITY. Who are your heroes in real life? TV and stand up comedians like Bill Hicks. What is the comic book that you most dislike? THE LOST ONES. Cool art, subpar story. What comic storyline would you most like to change? None. Creative license. Which comic book character do you think should die a permanent non-comic book death? All of them. What is your personal motto? You do you.
