CAPTAIN MARVEL was released a little over a month ago and in the movie we were introduced to the Skrulls in the MCU. While the adaptation of the Skrulls from comics to film was great, there were also some key differences. Moving forward with Skrull storylines in the movies, the MCU has an opportunity to adapt more comic accurate interpretations. One Skrull, in particular, could be pulled from the comics and cause some serious trouble for our heroes. While CAPTAIN MARVEL introduced us to the Skrulls, Carol introduced S.H.I.E.L.D. to secret alien technology. The technology S.H.I.E.L.D. gained access to explains why they were more advanced than the rest of the world later in the MCU.

Perhaps with the knowledge of alien life, S.H.I.E.L.D. also used their new tech for a top-secret space mission of their own. At the end of CAPTAIN MARVEL, we see her fly off into space, looking for Skrull refugees to help. The next time we see Carol, she is back on Earth roughly twenty years later, ready to fight Thanos with the Avengers. What was she doing in between that time? Maybe she discovered some familiar faces who found themselves lost in space after a failed S.H.I.E.L.D. mission. And maybe she also finds a brutal enemy.  Let’s investigate how the aftermath of CAPTAIN MARVEL, along with Super-Skrull, could be the key to the introduction of the Fantastic Four in the MCU.

Introduction to the Skrulls

CAPTAIN MARVEL introduced the MCU to the Skrulls, who are a race of shapeshifting aliens. In the comics, The Skrulls are seen as a much more aggressive species. I mean, in Secret Invasion, they come to Earth with the intention of invasion and colonization. However, the MCU version shows the Skrulls as more of the refugees and victims of the Kree. Then Captain Marvel decides to help the Skrull refugees find a new world.

Her mission at the end of CAPTAIN MARVEL is to locate and help other Skrull outposts throughout the universe. Although it is possible that not every Skrull outpost simply wants to peacefully relocate to a new planet like the Skrulls we saw in CAPTAIN MARVEL. Perhaps a group of Skrulls she comes across want to spread their reach through the galaxy through force and violence, and maybe they found the perfect way to achieve that goal.

After the events of CAPTAIN MARVEL, S.H.I.E.L.D. is now fully aware of the existence of aggressive alien life forms. Not only that, but S.H.I.E.L.D. now also has advanced Kree technology that could allow for space travel. With all of this new information and technology, S.H.I.E.L.D. could want to implement some intergalactic missions of their own. They could create a small top secret team to fly out into space and survey the galaxy and report back their findings.

The team will be implemented for discovery and information gathering. They would also act as an alert system for S.H.I.E.L.D. in case Earth was faced with an imminent threat. Maybe this team could never return after being sent out on their first mission to investigate a flare of cosmic radiation. Since the first space mission would be a failure, in this case, S.H.I.E.L.D. could decide to cancel their space program and bury the names of the people they lost.

Consisting of a small team of S.H.I.E.L.D. space explorers are a group of four very familiar faces: Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. After the exposure to radiation, the Fantastic Four will be born! Instead of returning to Earth with their newfound powers, however, perhaps the Fantastic Four could be picked up and taken in by a Skrull outpost. This outpost, however, could be a bit more militaristic than the one we saw in CAPTAIN MARVEL. Maybe after these Skrulls discover the Fantastic Four, they find a way to weaponize their powers.

Now let’s go back to Captain Marvel and rejoin her on her mission to find Skrull outposts and help them. She could come across the Skrull who kidnapped the Fantastic Four and realize that they are not peaceful refugees. These Skrulls, however, would be uninterested. Their goal would be to invade and take over other planets. After Captain Marvel decided she had to put a stop to Skrull’s sinister plans, she could be met with the weapon the Fantastic Four inadvertently helped create: Super-Skrull. Super-Skrull is a Skrull who was able to use all of the Fantastic Four’s powers at once. After the Skrulls realized this was possible using the Fantastic Four, they could have decided to keep them. Perhaps in the hopes of mass producing Super-Skrulls to more easily take over planets using that great power.

Once Everyone is Introduced

We would get into the meat of this proposed film after Captain Marvel discovers the Skrull outpost where the Fantastic Four are held captive and where Super-Skrull resides. Captain Marvel would come across this Skrull outpost and be shocked by what she sees. Carol thought the Skrulls were a race of refugees, who only wanted to live in peace on a planet of their own. Finding a group of highly militaristic Skrulls who are conducting human/Skrull enhancement experiments would take Captain Marvel a moment to process. Instead, she would have gone to their outpost to help them and she would have been forced to fight them. Captain Marvel could then free the Fantastic Four, who have only been used as guinea pigs since they got their powers.

Once freed, Fantastic Four and Captain Marvel could team up and fight Super-Skrull along with the rest of the Skrull outpost’s military. The Fantastic Four would realize the extent of their new powers in a perfect way. They would have the help of Captain Marvel, but would also be in a deadly situation. We would see the team learning how to use their powers in an exciting and high stakes way. In a lot of past super-hero movies, the heroes get their powers then quietly and safely learn how to use them then maybe go on small missions before they reach an expert level with their powers just in time for the main villain to attack.

The average super-hero movie trope would not exist in this proposed feature. The Fantastic Four would need to learn how to use their powers. If they don’t, then they could potentially be killed. At the same time, however, Captain Marvel would be there to help them after they inevitably find themselves in a sticky situation. Carol would guide them through their power discovery simply by having their backs and fighting alongside them.

The Importance of This Film in the MCU

Linking the introduction to the Fantastic Four with Captain Marvel could check a lot of boxes for the MCU. We will be introduced to Skrulls that are more accurate to their comic book counterparts. We could see how S.H.I.E.L.D. would react to the discovery of alien life and the usage of alien technology. This film could be a creative way to introduce the Fantastic Four and show Super-Skrull all in one go. Plus, it would introduce the fact that not all Skrulls are good.

Making the film more of a Captain Marvel and Fantastic Four team-up movie would be awesome. The Fantastic Four would be in a high stakes situation while they hone their powers. Plus, they would be fighting alongside Captain Marvel. Let’s face it, using established heroes to introduce other heroes has worked out pretty well for the MCU so far.

Overall this movie would be awesome to see. We will get depth to the Skrulls and introductions to cool characters. Not to mention an awesome continuation of the cosmic side of the MCU.
