In case you needed another reason to hype about the upcoming POKÉMON movie, meet Zeraora, the newest legendary Pokémon from the Alola region. Recently, a trailer of POKÉMON THE MOVIE: EVERYONE’S STORY was released. The video gives viewers a glimpse of this mythical Electric-type Pokémon from the Alola region, confirming its appearance.

Since the initial announcement of the franchise’s 21st feature film, back in December 2017, the official Pokémon Company’s Japanese YouTube channel has released a handful of teasers. At first, it seemed like the film would feature only one legendary Pokémon: Lugia, the familiar “guardian of the skies.” However, during the last few seconds of the newest trailer, we see a promising new face. (And we’re not talking about yet another change in Ash’s design.)

The Thunderclap Pokémon

Following the release of the new trailer, the official English-language Pokémon YouTube channel announced “a shocking discovery” in the Alola region. Lo and behold, it is Zeraora, spotted within the franchise’s ULTRA SUN and ULTRA MOON video game series. We get a better look at the Mythical Pokémon from the in-game video. It reveals a bipedal feline with yellow and black fur and some blue accents.

The official video game’s website describes Zeraora as follows:

“This Pokémon creates a powerful magnetic field by emitting strong electric currents from the pads on its hands and feet. It can use this magnetic field to levitate and move through the air at high speed. Its max speed is said to be about the same as that of a lightning strike.”

Despite this, very little is known about Zeraora within the POKÉMON ULTRA SUN and ULTRA MOON games. Nintendo often features unique (and sometimes hidden) challenges for such rare earnings, which fans have come to expect and value. That said, we will all have to stay tuned to find out.

Regions Collide

Interestingly enough, in most promotional images of the film, the only legendary Pokémon in sight is Lugia. The theatrical release poster shows Ash and his Pikachu in the foreground center, surrounded by new characters and familiar Pokémon. They all look over Fura City, with Lugia in the distance, flying high in the skyand Zeraora nowhere to be found. According to the movie’s official synopsis, EVERYONE’S STORY revolves around an important event during Fura City’s Wind Festival, where Lugia appears and graces the city with a blessed wind as part of an ancient promise.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how Zeraora will fit into EVERYONE’S STORY alongside Lugia. The motive behind Zeraora’s reveal within the ULTRA SUN and ULTRA MOON games might support the upcoming movie’s release. If so, this would parallel how Lugia was revealed. First, the legendary Pokémon made its debut in POKÉMON SILVER VERSION for the Game Boy Color in 1999. It then appeared in theaters with POKÉMON THE MOVIE: 2000. Nintendo will hopefully share more in-game details on Zeraora as we approach the release date of EVERYONE’S STORY.

But fans now have more questions than answers. Are Ash and his friends destined to meet the two legendaries? Will the two Pokémon get along with each other? Lugia is a Psychic and Flying-type Pokémon, whereas Zeraoara is an Electric-type. As every Pokémon trainer knows: Electric type is powerful against Flying. So if they do end up in a battle, will Lugia find himself in a bit of trouble?

We Can Only Wait

Wit Studio (ATTACK ON TITAN, THE ANCIENT MAGUS’ BRIDE) will be co-producing POKÉMON THE MOVIE: EVERYONE’S STORY. It will release in Japan on July 13, 2018. Unfortunately, there is no western release date as of the publication of this article. Until then, fans can enjoy POKÉMON ULTRA SUN and ULTRA MOON. Both games are currently available exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS.
