Grab some popcorn and a controller! Fans of MY HERO ACADEMIA know that a new season is in the works, but there’s plenty to enjoy as you wait. While the series’ manga has already provided details for future story arcs, new content will bring an entirely fresh style to the series. Some of anime’s coolest super-powered students are getting their own anime feature film and video game!

For those unfamiliar with MY HERO ACADEMIA, the story follows high school student Izuku Midoriya. In a world where nearly everyone is born with some kind of superpower, or quirk, Midoriya is ‘quirkless.’ Quirks are quite commonplace, so much so that they’re regulated by the government.

Citizens use their powers in their daily lives, some in basic ways and others in big ones. Most notable are those who decide to become heroes, using their quirks to fight evil and keep the peace. However, heroes have to go to school and earn a license to use their powers freely. Earning that license is no laughing matter, so only the best and brightest can become heroes.

Izuku Midoriya, despite having no special quirk, idolizes the world’s strongest hero, All Might. After All Might saves him from danger, Midoriya finds a way to get a quirk of his own. Using his newfound power, Midoriya enrolls at U.A. High School and blazes toward his dream of becoming the strongest hero ever.

The Announcement

News of the movie release comes from the newest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. Manga Helpers, a site that frequently posts early leaks of Shonen Jump magazines, broke the news. User Razers translated a portion of the leaked magazine, revealing the announcement of the film and a tentative release date sometime in 2018.

MY HERO ACADEMIA and the Power Struggle

The movie has only just been revealed, so not too much information is available. In the coming weeks, especially with Jump Festa happening in just two weeks, more information should come out. While the Weekly Shonen Jump leak contained no details of plot, reports that the movie may cover an anime-exclusive story line.

Game On

Bandai Namco recently released screenshots and details for the new video game MY HERO ACADEMIA: One’s Justice. From the screenshots, the game will be an action format, letting players assume the role of their favorite characters. Considering how vast the cast of the anime is, the game will likely have plenty of characters to choose from. That means gamers will finally get to use the amazing quirks of Midoriya and his classmates. Check out the screenshots below from the game’s official website.

Bandai has yet to announce an official release date for the game. So far, we know the game will be available on Nintendo Switch and Ps4. Details are supposedly coming at Jump Festa on December 15th, along with an official trailer for the incredible project. According to the game’s official website, MY HERO ACADEMIA: One’s Justice will feature destructible stages and dynamic character movement during gameplay to simulate battles from the anime.

Plus Ultra!

MY HERO ACADEMIA is one of the best anime of the year, if not of all time. Combining spectacular character development, amazing action, and a great plot, it’s one of my personal favorites. The possibility of an additional story arc by way of the movie means, even more, will be added to the already plentiful storyline in the manga and anime.

While we wait for the movie and video game releases, there’s plenty of MY HERO ACADEMIA to enjoy. Seasons one and two are already over, and season three is set for a 2018 release. Even if you’re all caught up, I can guarantee from personal experience that both seasons are even better the second time. For those who have yet to check out the manga, there are ten volumes out and hundreds of chapters to read. In any case, 2018 is sure to be a year of amazing quirks from an amazing anime!
