At NYCC 2017, our very own Brandon Bloxdorf got the chance to talk to Max Landis about SUPERMAN, AGENT OF BATMAN, and season two of his show DIRK GENTLY’S HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY!ComicsVerse: Hey! Brandon Bloxdorf here at New York Comic Con 2017, hanging out with the great Max Landis. You’re watching ComicsVerse. So, Max, we’re on season two of your show right now. How do you feel having your second season come out, and what’s it like to pull from a Douglas Adams’ book into your own way?Max Landis: Dazzling, exciting. The best ever. It’s a dream come true to adapt his work. I feel like his tone and the tone I wrote, which is this very silly, but emotionally grounded stuff. I feel like they fit together really well. I’m just so honored to be able to do that.ComicsVerse: What’s it like to pull from the pages and then create it into your own? Like what’s your thought process behind that?Max Landis: Well, the second season doesn’t have almost anything from the books, but in the first season I wanted to capture elements of the books that were iconic and defining. So, there are tonal dialogue and visual and thematic references, but not a direct adaptation. It feels great. It feels great that Sam can deliver Douglass Adams’ dialogue.Elijah Wood on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency at NYCC 2017ComicsVerse: We have rumors that you’re going to do another Superman book coming up.Max Landis: That’s correct.ComicsVerse: Agent of Batman. Can you say anything about that real fast?Max Landis: Well, right now, they’re still just rumors, but I do know what happens in it and I have been talking about it with DC. The question is all scheduling. It’s also that the format I want for it is significantly different than the format for the first series, which was seven issues. I want to continue that world, but in a much bigger and simultaneously more focused way. It’s been a thing where I’m pitching repeatedly trying to make that happen and it just comes about so much of my time is working on this show. It’s like when am I going to do it?ComicsVerse: Cool. So, well, thank you so much for taking some time to talk to us. We’ll see you around. You guys are watching ComicsVerse.
