The Merrill family is at the very center of everything happening in CASTLE ROCK Season 2. Even though we’ve only seen the first three episodes, Paul Sparks (John “Ace” Merrill) and Matthew Alan (Chris Merrill) have already seen a lot of action and conflict.

If you haven’t seen the beginning of this season yet, don’t worry. The following contains no spoilers.

Sparks and Alan in CASTLE ROCK Season 2

So far this season, Ace has been in conflict with nearly everyone around him. The general weirdness, and perhaps supernatural elements, of the town of Castle Rock only heighten the family drama that we see play out.

Chris seems to be the opposite of his brother — level-headed and empathetic. So far, he’s done everything he can to avoid conflict. He even shows kindness to the newcomer Annie (played by Lizzie Caplan) while others shy away from her.

Fans of Stephen King may already know Ace, as Kiefer Sutherland played this character in STAND BY ME. Chris, however, is an entirely new character. We asked Sparks and Alan about how this affects their performances in CASTLE ROCK, as there is a lot of material for them to pull from. Between the last season of the show, the books, and the movies, the CASTLE ROCK world is incredibly rich.

We discussed this and much more with the cast of Hulu’s CASTLE ROCK Season 2 at New York Comic-Con 2019. Check out the video above to see the full, spoiler-free interview.

The first three episodes of CASTLE ROCK Season 2 are already available on Hulu. You can catch new episodes every Wednesday.
