The Marvel January Solicitations reveal that there’s a lot to look forward to for the new year. Not only are some of our favorites like THE UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL still going strong, but Marvel is also releasing some much anticipated new series. From classics like CAPTAIN AMERICA to new debuts like LEGION and RISE OF THE BLACK PANTHER, here’s what we’re excited about from Marvel this January.

RISE OF THE BLACK PANTHER #1

In the month before the highly anticipated film, famed writer Ta-Nehisi Coates alongside Evan Narcisse will write RISE OF THE BLACK PANTHER. This five-part comic series will tell the story of T’Challa’s ascendancy to the Wakandan throne. It is very exciting to see Coates craft his own take on the Black Panther’s origins. The comic series will mostly follow the events around and directly following T’Challa’s father, T’Chaka’s murder. For those who want to learn more about this amazing hero in time for the film this is the comic for you!

LEGION #1

Legion has returned to the Marvel Universe! Following the success of his FX television series, David Haller and his twisted mind are warring for your attention. Charles Xavier’s son, David is an incredibly gifted mutant, with a vast range of powers and even more personalities. Now, a new personality has emerged, looking to absorb all of the others in a last-ditch attempt to rule the roost. Legion has to turn to the only person he can — his therapist! STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI – DJ #1

Fans have an innumerable amount of questions about STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI but a consistent mystery has been who veteran actor Benicio Del Toro is playing. Earlier this year director Rian Johnson revealed that Del Toro will play a character who goes under the initials DJ. That could mean a variety of things. Dark Jedi? Disc Jockey? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson? Well never fear, as Marvel is releasing a comic starring DJ coming this January. It will be written by Ben Blacker (STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI – THE STORMS OF CRAIT) with art by DOCTOR APHRA’s Kev Walker. This is not an origin story but described as “a day in DJ’s life just before his appearance in the film.” If DJ is as crucial a figure to THE LAST JEDI as some fans think he is, you will not want to miss STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI – DJ #1!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #150 & #151

Adam Warlock is back, but is he better than ever or just causing trouble? Writer Gerry Duggan, with the help of Marcus To, Aaron Kuder, and Mike Allred on art, is crafting this new story in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #150 and #151. The Infinity Stones are once again drawing the interest of numerous parties when Adam returns. By why exactly is he here? Is he going to help our heroes or take the stones for himself? With a combined total of 72 pages, you won’t want to miss this two issue epic story!

THE UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL #28

Are you nuts for adventure? Then check out the upcoming THE UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL #28 with Ryan North and Erica Henderson. The Forbidden Pla-nut Part 2 promises more squirrel based adventures! Nancy and Tippy-Toe find themselves kidnapped on a planet surrounded by alien squirrels with demise looming over them. Surely Squirrel Girl will go to save them? Unfortunately, she forgot to put a tracking device on her friends while trying to defeat The Dread Dormammu. All the while Loki has become sorcerer supreme! What’s a half girl, half squirrel to do? BLACK BOLT #9

Spidey and Deadpool are both in their golden years, living out the rest of their lives in the same nursing home. Will they still be best buds, or the most hated enemies in the rec room? Find out in this story, which hints at a future SPIDER-MAN/DEADPOOL arc that starts in 2018.

Now that Deadpool’s reembraced his mercenary lifestyle and fought his former best bud Cable, who will he set his sights on next?
