Civil War is one of the biggest comic events in Marvel history, involving nearly every hero on earth, and quite a few villains to boot! With this announcement, we’ve finally got a list of some of the definitive players in the feud between Captain America and Iron Man. We previously speculated on what the roster would look like for Marvel’s upcoming super movie in this article, and now we have some confirmation on our theories! We’ll take a look at just how accurate our predictions have been so far!The Confirmed Characters:Marvel announced today that the following characters would be included in the upcoming Captain America sequel:The Heroes: Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Falcon, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, War Machine, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Black PantherThe Villains: General Ross, Crossbones, Baron Zemo, Bucky BarnesOther Characters: Sharon Carter, and an unknown character played by The Hobbit’s Martin FreemanFor comic book reviews (including video reviews!), click here! Our Predictions:After some analysis of the possible heroes and villains that exist at this point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we determined that the following would be a likely scenario for the Civil War movie:Iron Man’s Team: Black Widow, Hawkeye, War Machine, Thor, Maria Hill, Vision, Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Ms. MarvelCaptain America’s Team: Falcon, Ant-Man, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron FistVillains: Thunderbolt Ross, Abomination, Crossbones, Batroq, Whiplash, Yellowjacket, The Owl, VenomComparison:First off, we had quite a few predictions correct:– Those of us who have seen Age of Ultron know that Captain America, Black Widow, Vision, War Machine, Falcon, and Scarlet Witch are the new Avengers team, so it’s no surprise that they are returning. – Also returning will be Iron Man – Ant-Man will show up as well, after his debut later this summer.Check out our podcasts to learn more!None of this was too surprising, however, we had a number of predictions not come true (or at least, not get confirmed): – Obviously, our predictions as far as which side heroes will choose cannot currently be confirmed, as that hasn’t been reported at this point. – While we knew that Hulk would be isolating himself at the end of Age of Ultron, we assumed he would be in space… but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. – We assumed Thor would show up, but his dreams seem to have spooked him back to Asgard for the time being. – Quicksilver is dead, so he’ll have some trouble fighting in the Civil War. – Maria Hill has not been announced, but I would be surprised if we didn’t see her in this movie. – Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist haven’t been announced, and, with the exception of Daredevil, may not yet be in the MCU by the time of the film. – Black Panther will make his debut in Civil War; we had assumed that we wouldn’t see him until the Black Panther movie. – She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel were only rumors to show up in Age of Ultron, but this didn’t pan out. – There’s been no announcement about Spider-Man’s presence in Civil War, but, seriously, he’ll be in there. As far as the villains go, we have been way off so far:– General Ross is confirmed (so we were right about that)! – Crossbones will be back, but we knew this almost from the get-go. – Baron Zemo wasn’t even on our radar, but he’s been announced to be in Civil War! – Bucky Barnes will appear, which, really, we should have guessed, considering the part he played in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. – We predicted the Abomination would appear- since General Ross is in, we might still see this. – No news on Whiplash, Batroq, or Yellowjacket. – The Owl died, but his son will probably appear in season 2 of Daredevil as the supervillain. – Venom is just simply not going to happen. Let’s be honest here.Want to brush up on your comic book history? Click here for articles and blog posts!Analysis:Age of Ultron showed us the biggest Marvel movie to date: with 10 heroes in the final battle (and that’s not even including Falcon or Nick Fury), we saw a huge team. Civil War has already announced 10 heroes and 4 villains, and there’s no reason to assume that this is the final list. Spider-Man will almost certainly be in the film. And don’t forget, we could see even more heroes debuting in this film, or possibly making cameos. Civil War is supposed to lead into Infinity War, so adding new characters will be one way to help unite the titles.Speaking of unity, the part of this announcement that I’m most excited about (because, really, it was the only thing that wasn’t expected), is the inclusion of General Ross. Finally that Incredible Hulk movie matters to the overall MCU. Plus, that means there’s potential for a Red Hulk in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What are you most excited about?
