Cable

It’s been almost thirty years since the first appearance of Cable, which means it’s time to reflect on some of his most famous incarnations. To celebrate, Marvel is releasing five CABLE Greatest Hits variant covers for CABLE #155-#159, showcasing the Soldier of Fortune’s best moments.

So far, Marvel has released three covers. One pays homage to Rob Liefeld‘s original depiction of the character from the NEW MUTANTS #86 cover. Another shows Cable during the dystopian AGE OF APOCALYPSE series. The last known cover illustrates Cable’s role as the guardian of the Mutant Messiah, Hope Summers. The announced artists include: Ryan Stegman, Mike Spicer, Ariel Olivetti, and Chris Burnham.

Back to the Future…and the Past?

The last two covers of the five that Marvel plans on releasing are a mystery. Since there are so many series with Cable as the protagonist, the decision for which to homage is a tough one. If I had to choose, I’d include the future version of Cable from THE ADVENTURES OF CYCLOPS AND PHOENIX and the Cable from the series CABLE & DEADPOOL. Both show iconic times in the mutant hero’s life and help explain some of his relationships.

Meet Cable: The Infamous Character From DEADPOOL 2

These covers are perfect for any Cable fan, or for anyone who is interested in learning about the character. DEADPOOL 2, which showcases the famous Cable and Deadpool duo, will be in theaters in May. While Cable isn’t a very popular X-Men member at the moment (perhaps because no X-Men movies have starred him) after DEADPOOL 2 is released, his popularity is sure to skyrocket. Since his character has been around for a while, these covers will help new fans discover important parts of his past.

CABLE Greatest Hits Variant Release Dates and Image Gallery

The first CABLE Greatest Hits variant cover hits shelves on March 21st. April 18th will see the release of the second variant cover, and the third comes out on May 16th. If you’re a Cable fan, be sure to pick up all five of the variants to add to your collection!
