Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr There’s a rumor going around that Disney may be planning a LOKI limited series on their new streaming service. What could that look like? Here are our thoughts for a Loki series centered on God of Mischief himself. LOKI Series: Soon to be Streaming This rumor comes from Variety, who claims that the potential LOKI series will be for Disney’s upcoming streaming service. The service will also feature a HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL series, a MONSTERS INC. series, Jon Favreau’s live-action STAR WARS series, alongside this new Marvel content. A LOKI series would be a part of that content as well as a rumored SCARLET WITCH series. It really does show how all-in Disney is in making their service a powerhouse. They want it to be attractive to consumers. The Star Wars series has a huge, almost blockbuster-level budget. The same would be true for the Marvel content if these reports are true. Disney has already begun to pull their content and end contracts with other services, thereby losing out on quite a bit of revenue. They’re hoping to make that revenue back with their own service, and they see providing premium content from their biggest franchises as the way to do it. Image from Walt Disney Entertainment Warner Bros. has already begun with the DC UNIVERSE app, providing a huge amount of their content in one place, as well as providing new and original content such as the upcoming TITANS series. The actors who play Loki and Scarlet Witch in the films, Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, are also rumored to be a part of this content, reprising their roles respectively. LOKI Series: Never Say Die When would this upcoming LOKI series take place? Currently, in the MCU narrative, Loki is dead. Thanos kills him at the beginning of INFINITY WAR. As Thanos chokes the life out of him, he tells Loki: “No more resurrections this time.” However, playing dead is something Loki’s pretty good at. It’s like his best trick. Is it possible that Loki once again fooled us all, and is still among the living? Marvel Studios has a hard time letting go of characters. It could be revealed that Loki’s death was all a ruse, or that the events in AVENGERS 4 somehow prevent his death from happening at all, given the evidence that the film will most likely involve time travel. Image from Marvel Entertainment LOKI Series: Post-INFINITY WAR So what would a post-INFINITY WAR LOKI series have to offer? Well, Loki’s arc in THOR: RAGNAROK/INFINITY WAR serves as a pretty significant turning point for the character. Those films see Loki making decisions that don’t necessarily fit into the selfish-type of actions he’s generally known for. He returns to Asgard to help his brother and save his people. He stays with Thor at the film’s end, seemingly for a genuine chance to reconnect and be better than what he was. To reach the potential for good that Thor sees in him. Image from Marvel Entertainment INFINITY WAR sees Loki sacrifice himself, supposedly, for the sake of his brother. He calls himself a Son of Odin, a big step for Loki. It means that after all this time, he is choosing to identify and reconcile with Odin’s adoption of him. He’s choosing to belong to those who have been loving him throughout all of his misdeeds. It makes his death, fake or not, that much more meaningful. Image from Marvel Entertainment Now, even with these big steps towards the light, a LOKI series post-INFINITY WAR would most likely feature Loki as a sort of rogue anti-hero. After all, he did still steal the Space Stone from Odin’s vault during his heroics, and he did feign allegiance to Thanos in order to get close enough with his knife. He’ll still have his tricks and schemes. LOKI Series: Worlds Thor’s Never Known About In the first AVENGERS, Loki tells Thor that he’s been to other worlds and that he’s grown in his exile since he fell through the wormhole at the end of the first THOR film. In THOR: THE DARK WORLD, Loki reveals his knowledge of backdoors to other realms without the use of the Bifrost. None of his time away growing and traveling has yet to be actually seen on-screen in the MCU. So why not have that time as the LOKI series? There’d be plenty of content to reveal and it could feature a Loki that becomes power-hungry, seeking revenge, and desiring a throne of his own. However, this wouldn’t be the same type of Loki we see in the first AVENGERS. It would be a Loki potentially in conflict, trying to leave his emotional familial ties behind so that he can burden himself with glorious purpose as we see later on. Image from Marvel Entertainment The LOKI series would have Loki traveling the cosmos of the MCU, with a mixture of places old and new. The final episode would of course end with Loki at Sanctuary, meeting Thanos, and going to Earth to conquer. A LOKI series like that has the potential to be really great and entertaining. It would certainly be awesome if Marvel were able to capture Loki’s transition to darkness while still maintaining all that makes him sympathetic. Loki’s motives have typically been centered around his feelings of being passed over. He feels cheated out of his chance in the spotlight. LOKI Series: Young Loki Would be Okay…I Guess Another possibility, although slightly less cool, would be to have a LOKI series based on Loki during his youth. I doubt people are interested in seeing a LOKI series without Tom Hiddleston in the titular role, but it’s worth noting. Image from Marvel Entertainment A young LOKI series could show Loki at a time in his life where perhaps he’s beginning to notice his father Odin favoring Thor over him. No matter what he does, Thor seems to get more of the appreciation and recognition. As Loki tells Thor in the AVENGERS: “I remember a shadow. Living in the shade of your greatness. I who was, and should be king!” You could see Loki and Thor having adventures together. Thor could be brave, and Loki could play tricks, but Loki would always fell less-than. As the series concludes, perhaps you have Loki’s feelings grow into bitter resentment, providing him with the motivation to foil Thor, such as his inviting Frost Giants to Thor’s coronation at the beginning of the first THOR film. Image from Marvel Entertainment A young LOKI series would be less fun than other potential ideas in my opinion. Hiddleston’s performance is one of the biggest draws for the character. He plays Loki so well. However, for the sake of satisfying continuity, the actor who plays young Loki in THOR, Ted Allpress, would be around the age to play a teenage young Loki, so that’s something. LOKI Series: Marvel Knows What They’re Doing In the end, whatever Marvel Studios does with the LOKI series will be great. It’ll be sure to draw the masses to Disney’s streaming service.
