Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr At Disney’s D23 Expo this past weekend, we saw a huge TOY STORY world gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated KINGDOM HEARTS 3. For those unaware, KINGDOM HEARTS is a game series that crosses over characters and gameplay from the FINAL FANTASY series with Disney characters and worlds. The game’s developer is Square Enix, a Japanese video game studio responsible for some of gaming’s most iconic RPGs, ever. What is unique about this franchise, is its integration of all the Disney properties. It spans worlds from PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN and TRON, to LION KING and SNOW WHITE. The interesting part is that there hasn’t been a major entry in the series since 2005.That means there has not been a major entry since before Disney acquired Marvel and Lucasfilm. With that information, we can now speculate that the next entry, due out next year, would include some Jedi and Avengers.Square Enix and Disney’s PartnershipWhile there is very little evidence at the moment for STAR WARS to be in KINGDOM HEARTS 3, there is plenty for Marvel. Back in January, Marvel and Square Enix announced a multi-year, multi-game partnership is revolving around the Avengers. Their AVENGERS PROJECT is also a collaboration with two other studios, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. Now, while this may seem irrelevant at first, just take a closer look.RELATED: Click to See the Many Possibilities of Marvel’s Deal with Square EnixSquare Enix, the developer of KINGDOM HEARTS, is partnered with Marvel for a game series based on Marvel characters. Square Enix is partnered with Disney, who owns Marvel, to make the KINGDOM HEARTS games. In other words, Disney owns Marvel, and they are both paired with a developer that is making games for both, it is almost a sure bet that we will, in one way or another, see the Avengers team up with the Keyblade wielding Sora of KINGDOM HEARTS.Square Enix has all the assets at their disposal; and, the raging success of the Marvel films is something that the game franchise should capitalize on. KINGDOM HEARTS 3 is hitting late next year, just after the release of Marvel’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. 2018 is the perfect time to integrate these characters into KINGDOM HEARTS. It keeps the franchise fresh for old fans and even brings in new ones.Which Characters/Places Could We See?The obvious choice of Marvel characters to be featured are the big three: Captain America, Iron Man and Spider-Man. Unfortunately, there could potentially be legal issues with Spider-Man being in the game. Spidey could presumably be replaced by another Avenger, such as Thor, Hulk, or Doctor Strange. As for the protagonist of this world, perhaps Loki or Thanos. The choice for setting is, again, obvious. What better place than New York City for Sora to team up with the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Maybe potentially even visit Asgard and Odin.REVIEW: Here Is What We Thought of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMINGAnother crew of characters we could see our heroes bumping into while exploring the cosmos are the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Seeing Sora and his party decked out in Ravager gear would be pretty darn cool, to say the least. Also, that opens the door to cool space adventures if STAR WARS ends up not being in the game. Visiting Xandar and Knowhere while aboard the Milano could be an absolute treat for fans.KINGDOM HEARTS: The Galaxy’s Mightiest AvengersWhile the crossover of Marvel into the KINGDOM HEARTS franchise is not even necessary, it would be a true delight for the series. Nowadays, audiences are overly familiar with the brightly colored superheroes, and it would surely be a missed opportunity, to say the least. It would be smartest for the crossover if it ever were to happen, to happen now while the superhero craze is still hot and fresh. With the time it has taken to make the third main entry in the series (2005 to 2018), trying to add it into the next sequel could mean completely missing this trend entirely.READ: Where are the Comic Book Anime Adaptations?Square Enix has been known for taking a long time to get their games out. In the past, they have missed the mark by putting the game out a few years too late. With the launch date of KINGDOM HEARTS 3 landing right amidst the golden age of comic book movies, bringing Marvel into the fold could prove to be a huge benefit for the game. As a matter of fact, we could potentially see another gameplay trailer including Marvel heroes this weekend at Sand Diego Comic Con 2017.What do you think about the Marvel heroes appearing in KINGDOM HEARTS 3? Do you think STAR WARS will make the cut? Lightsaber Keyblade?! Sora in an Iron Man suit?! Goofy with Captain America’s shield?!?! Sign me up!! Tell me your thoughts in the comments below!
