On July 2nd, Bandai Namco Entertainments confirmed three BLEACH characters are on the roster for the upcoming game, JUMP FORCE. The premise of JUMP FORCE is simple: all of your favorite Shonen Jump characters, in one place, fighting head to head in three on three battles.

If your first reaction to this was, “What took them so long?” We agree with you. But JUMP FORCE promises to be the game we’ve all wanted in our lives since grade school. In the official trailer which premiered at E3, we saw characters from fan favorites such as DRAGON BALL Z, NARUTO, DEATH NOTE, and ONE PIECE included in the game. See the trailer below via the official Xbox website:

And for those of you without an Xbox, don’t worry; the game is due for PS4 and PC as well.

That’s right, on top of this fantastic-looking trailer, Bandai Namco announced on July 2nd, that Ichigo, Rukia, and Aizen will be included in the game’s roster at launch next summer. It’s tweets like this that get us especially excited.

BLEACH was an obvious omission from the original announcement, and it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see these characters on the list of fan favorites we will get to play at launch. Accompanying the new characters is a new stage, Hong Kong, which will provide an urban backdrop for our heroes as they battle for supremacy in the JUMP universe.

JUMP FORCE now has nine characters we have seen. The list, which now includes three BLEACH characters, also includes Goku and Frieza, of DRAGON BALL Z, Luffy and Zoro of ONE PIECE, Light and Ryuk of DEATH NOTE, and Naruto and Sasuke of NARUTO.

JUMP FORCE promises a story mode in addition to the versus mode it is sure to include. What that story might be is unknown as of now. It has been stated, however, that the DEATH NOTE characters will only be playable within this story mode. More details about the unique use of these characters are sure to come out slowly as we wait for JUMP FORCE next summer.

Who’s Next?

This is sure to be just the beginning of the announcements. The inclusion of three BLEACH characters implies that the other properties in question may have at least one additional character we haven’t yet seen. And the fact that the format of the game is three vs three combat might confirm this suspicion. This means we more than likely have an additional character to look forward to for each of the titles we saw at E3 back in June, not to mention titles that haven’t yet been included.

Obviously, Shonen Jump is a huge brand name, with a lot of big-name titles under its umbrella. Some of the most popular anime and manga of all time have been produced by Shonen Jump. Titles which include YU YU HAKUSHO, RUROUNI KENSHIN, FAIRY TAIL, MY HERO ACADEMIA, ONE PUNCH MAN, and so many others. So with this surplus of talent, who else will make the cut?

With next summer looking so far away, all we can do is speculate and hope our favorites make it in. Personally, I would be more than a little disappointed if Yusuke Urameshi of YU YU HAKUSHO didn’t make the cut. Personal hopes and dreams aside, one thing is for sure: this cast of warriors is already shaping up to make JUMP FORCE the most anticipated game of 2019.

Fairy Tail was published in Weekly Shonen Magazine by Kodansha, an entirely different company from Shonen Jump publisher Shueisha.
