You don’t want to miss it.ComicsVerse (CV): ComicsVerse live from NYCC 2018, at the Valiant booth, with the executive editor, Joseph. Joseph, Valiant’s going through a lot of changes in the last year. What can we expect? Are there any big differences on the rise? Is it kind of the same old, same old? What’s going on with Valiant at the moment?Joseph Illidge: Basically what’s going on is New York Comic Con is really the first opportunity for us to show the entirely new team here at Valiant. We’re really talking about BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT, which is launching in November. We’re talking about LIVEWIRE, which is launching in December. And, we’re heading towards the 30th anniversary of Valiant. We have a lot of big plans. We’re going to be talking about a lot of new releases coming out in the coming weeks and the coming months. And you’re going to see the growth of this company; we’re very excited about it.CV: Last year, HARBINGER WARS was the big event for Valiant. What big events are coming up onthea horizon that people can kind of check out?Joseph Illidge: Basically the future of Valiant is really about elevating characters to a higher status. People are really familiar with our iconic characters, X-O Manowar, Shadowman, Ninjak, the Harbinger team. And a character like Livewire, who started in Harbinger in the very second issue, I believe, of the series, is now getting her ongoing series. And that’s really the beginning of a new wave of projects. We’re going to see a lot of great characters from the Valiant Universe elevated into independent books.CV: We got a chance to talk to Karl yesterday about bring new blood and Valiant looking to expand. What is it you generally look for as far as new artists, new writers, new team, new editors, and bringing in Valiant, especially with this new change on the horizon?Joseph Illidge: We’re looking for quality. We’re looking for people who love comics. And we’re looking for people who understand the company of Valiant, understand it’s legacy, understand it’s commitment to good books. We have a great affection for all of the fans, the retailers, the supporters. So basically, it’s people who believe in the mission of the company. And we have a really great team. We have a great staff. And all of us are very excited for the growth of this company and unveiling the plans and stages so that you’ll see what the next stage of Valiant is going to be.CV: Now, from a managerial leadership perspective, is there any particular team or book or something that’s coming out that you’re personally looking forward to?Joseph Illidge: We’re excited about BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT by Kevin Grevioux, Lonnie Nadler, Zach Thompson, Ken Lashley, Diego Bernard, Simon Boland. We have LIVEWIRE, which is by Vita Ayala, Raul Allen, Patricia Martin, [inaudible 00:02:34]. We’re really happy about those and we’ll be talking more about the next wave of projects coming out. And those are the two books that we’re launching at the end of the year. And we’re very excited about both of those series, ’cause BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT is gonna be the definitive origin of Bloodshot, which is really perfect because have the Bloodshot movie with Van Diesel coming out February 21st, 2020. So we really want to invite everybody to this character and show you the secret origin that various people have been waiting for — for awhile.CV: Speaking of the movie, does the cinematic element ever have to, does it kind of meddle with the comic element or are they two separate entities?Joseph Illidge: They’re two separate entities and where they both unite is character and quality. That’s where they unite, but publishing is one entity. Cinema is another. The Bloodshot movie’s being done by Sony and we run Valiant Comics.CV: If you had to pick one sentence, why someone should be picking up and reading Valiant books right now, what would it be?Joseph Illidge: Valiant is the best superhero universe out there, committed to character and story above all.CV: All right. Awesome. Thank you very much, sir.Want More ComicsVerse, Joseph Illidge, NYCC Content? Head To ComicsVerse.com For More!
