To begin the DC news, Arrow Season 6 is over! With its season finale having aired this last Thursday, Season 6 has a decently strong conclusion. Titled, “Life Sentence,” the season finale sees Oliver (Stephen Amell) joining forces with FBI Agent Watson (Sydelle Noel) in order to take down Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo). Here’s a recap/review:

The episode opens with Oliver and company (friends/teammates) taking back the police station from Diaz, working with the FBI. Then, Oliver’s man on the inside, Anatoly (David Nykl) reveals that Diaz is recruiting the Longbow Hunters. Team Arrow goes in to intercept, but it turns out to be a trap. However, everyone survives this encounter where Diaz had bombs rigged to blow.

Later, Diaz makes a call to Quentin (Paul Blackthorne), who is now the mayor. And, he tells him to order the FBI out of Star City. If he doesn’t comply, then he will kill Laurel (Katie Cassidy). Team Arrow and the FBI use this opportunity to track Diaz down. This results in a huge fight between Oliver and Diaz on a rooftop.

While Diaz survives and escapes the encounter, Oliver does manage to get all of the info and records Diaz was using to control the city. In this way, Team Arrow is able to get the city back from Diaz, who had corrupted it so much. Unfortunately, Quentin took a gunshot wound during the conflict, trying to save Laurel. When he goes in for the operation, there were complications and he dies.

While this comes as a tragic shock, what happens next takes that shock even further.

More on the ARROW Season 6 Finale

Oliver’s deal with the FBI comes with a price. The cost of the FBI’s help requires Oliver to publicly out himself as the Green Arrow and be put under arrest. The end of the episode sees Arrow being escorted to his cell in a Supermax prison. As finales go, this one appeared not as strong as other ARROW finales. However, it was a pretty good episode for the season overall.

Season 6 has seen a bit of turmoil as far as being consistent in their strength and entertainment value. The fight scene between Oliver and Diaz is shot really well, with the cinematography and fight choreography being on point. It certainly seems like there’s no way Oliver will ever be able to keep a lid on his secret identity in future seasons.

Furthermore, the question still remains as to how Oliver will get out of prison. Diaz is still out there, and with a name drop like the Longbow Hunters, a group of Green Arrow villains from the comics, we should expect to see them team up with Diaz as the main antagonists for Season 7.

Discover Alfred’s Origins

Epix is bringing the butler into the fold. The MGM-owned premium cable network has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order for PENNYWORTH from GOTHAM showrunner Bruno Heller and executive producer Danny Cannon. PENNYWORTH will follow Bruce Wayne’s famed butler, Alfred Pennyworth, as

“a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960’s London.”

It will be interesting to see what storyline and characters Heller and Cannon bring to PENNYWORTH. Scott Snyder’s ALL STAR BATMAN recently told a story about Alfred’s life as a spy. Perhaps we can expect this PENNYWORTH to take some inspiration from that series?

Will PENNYWORTH connect at all to the work that Heller and Cannon have done in GOTHAM? Will we receive any more fascinating tidbits about the history of the Waynes? We’ll have to wait until 2019 when the series premieres to find out!

The DC Universe is Bringing in DOOM PATROL

DC news

The most surprising DC news is that DC has announced that DOOM PATROL will be joining their new streaming service DC UNIVERSE. DOOM PATROL, was announced as “a re-imaging of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl, and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief).”

DOOM PATROL will function as a spinoff to the show TITANS. Interestingly, DC has announced that DOOM PATROL will be “called to action by none other than Cyborg.” I am interested to see whether TITANS connects this show to the DCEU and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg.

If the latter is true — expect Cyborg to be the only recurring character in the show. DOOM PATROL marks another addition to Greg Berlanti’s DC television empire. It is easy to see why Berlanti would be attracted to the DOOM PATROL. Each of its characters has survived trauma and accidents that gave them their powers.

This is what will set DOOM PATROL apart from other DC properties. It will be fascinating to see how DOOM PATROL compares to the other shows Berlanti has produced.

Batwoman Comes to the Arrowverse!

Another piece of big DC news came out of the CW’s presentation at Upfront. There the Green Arrow himself, Stephen Amell, came on stage to talk about the next Arrowverse crossover. During this announcement, he revealed that Batwoman and Gotham would be the main focus of the crossover event!

This is huge news for the Arrowverse, as it means that areas previously believed to be inaccessible, such as the Batman mythos, are now open for the CW to explore. While FOX’s GOTHAM has been renewed for another smaller season, it will be its last. This means that once GOTHAM ends, the CW may have an opportunity to go even further with Batman and his city. They have already referenced Batman a little bit, such as when the Green Arrow name dropped Bruce Wayne earlier in this latest season, much to fans excitement.

BATWOMAN #1 Review: Depths of Pain

Fans are sure to be ecstatic about this development, but they shouldn’t expect a CW Batman appearance just yet, akin to Superman’s small appearances on SUPERGIRL. It looks as though Batwoman, Kate Kane, will be the focus for. Nonetheless, fans can expect plenty of references to the Gotham universe.

As of yet, there has been no word of any plans for Batwoman after to crossover, or who will play her. Maybe she could join the Legends? What if she got her own show?! Who would you like to see play Batwoman?

THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN Trailer Released!

Warner Brothers Animation has released it’s THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN trailer! Following in its own continuity, THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN will tell the story of the Man of Steel (Jerry O’Connell) defending his city of Metropolis from Doomsday.

This is an adaptation of the 1992 story THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN from Dan Jurgens. Whereas that story had only Superman facing off against Doomsday, this movie will include Batman (Jason O’Mara), Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson), and the rest of the Justice League defending the city streets against the alien monster.

While films like BATMAN V. SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN: DOOMSDAY didn’t totally capture the power and intimidation level of Doomsday, this film plans to have far more comic accurate. In particularly with next year’s THE REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN announced as a follow-up, you can expect this Sam Liu directed film to follow the comics faithfully.

Does BATMAN NINJA Live Up to the Hype?

I am also excited that Peter J. Tomasi (SUPERMAN: REBIRTH) wrote the script for THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN. Tomasi is one of the writers today who has worked the most on the Man of Steel. It is good to know that the script is in the hands of someone who understands the material!

THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN soars into release on August 7, 2018!

Margot Kidder 1948-2018

To conclude our DC news, we’d be remiss to not mention the sad passing of Margot Kidder on May 13, 2018, at the age of 69. As the actor who played Lois Lane in the original 1978 SUPERMAN, Kidder portrayed the first love interest of any major superhero film. Kidder beautifully captured the essence of Lois with her upbeat attitude.

She also brilliantly leaned into the campy but delightful spirit of the early SUPERMAN comics. The flying sequence when Kidder wonders “can you read my mind” is still one of the best in any comic book movie. Alongside portraying Lois Lane, Margot Kidder also starred as Kathy Lutz in the famed horror film THE AMITYVILLE HORROR. On Broadway, she appeared in the 2002 production of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES.

DOOM PATROL #8 Review: A Strong Grip of Doom

She also won a Daytime Emmy Award for her performance on the children’s television show R.L. STINE’S THE HAUNTING HOUR. Margot Kidder is notable for being one of the first publicized instances of an actor struggling with mental illness in Hollywood. Her brave fight against bipolar disorder led the way for future actors to gain more acceptance and awareness for their own mental health issues.

Kidder was also a noted activist, participating largely in environmental, social, and anti-war causes. She notably protested fracking, the Keystone Pipeline, and the War in Iraq.

I cannot properly express the words for the loss the world is grappling with the passing of Margot Kidder. I will simply say thank you, Margot Kidder. You will forever be our Lois Lane!
