ComicsVerse is happy to present an exclusive preview of THE FALL AND RISE OF CAPTAIN ATOM #6, the final issue of DC’s excellent miniseries. We’re sad to see it go but excited for what this last issue will bring. The series, featuring Captain Atom, started as a sort of time travel adventure. Now, it is more of a typical “superhero vs. super-villain” story. The interesting twist is that all the problems in the story trace back to its hero. It’s Captain Atom’s own nuclear instability that causes the explosion that throws him into the past and, eventually, rips him back into the present, but not before he gets married and has a son.

Because of the explosion, he has to present himself as a new and different Captain Atom, since the populace views his former self as a menace. His first mission as the “new” Captain Atom, of course, goes awry, and he accidentally transforms convicted assassin Max Thrane into the quantum-powered super-villain Ultramax. Can Captain Atom stop Thrane’s killing spree? Can he also find a way to reconnect with his son? We’ll find out in THE FALL AND RISE OF CAPTAIN ATOM #6!

THE FALL AND RISE OF CAPTAIN ATOM #6 picks up where the last issue ended. Atom is confronting General Eiling about the truth of the general’s connection to Thrane. It turns out, Eiling hired Thrane in the past and later turned on him. Eiling was the rat Thrane’s been hunting for, so there’s no doubt Thrane will be back with a vengeance. The general, of course, wants to keep everything classified, but it seems Captain Atom might not be of the same mind. The preview then cuts to Atom at his wife’s grave, trying to figure out if he can ever have a relationship with his son. This emotional story line with his wife and son has been, to me, the heart of the series. I hope the writers take enough time away from the superhero antics to properly conclude that plot line.

THE FALL AND RISE OF CAPTAIN ATOM #6 is out Wednesday, June 7th. Check out the full preview below!
