We’re approaching the midpoint in the RAVEN: DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS miniseries, but the book shows no sign of slowing down! This occult-influenced story is more about family and interpersonal relationships than darkness and demons. Yet it still strikes a delightful balance of the two, infusing both heart and creepiness into the narrative. It’s sometimes funny, often touching, and somehow just as surreal as it is relatable. To get readers excited for the next issue, ComicsVerse is able to bring you an exclusive preview of RAVEN: DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS #5!

At the end of the previous issue, Raven and her mother were captured. They’re now trapped in the midst of an army of demonic, ghost-like creatures called the Shadow-Riders. It seems, however, that they remain unaware of the threat surrounding them. They awake to find themselves in a cave, unaware of how they got there.

These Shadow-Riders, however, greatly concern Baron Winters. He consults his library and can only find one mention of the creatures. He comments to Merlin about the poor writing in the passage while wondering what their purpose is. Baron Winters also utters the line, “Good lord on a crutch,” which is just delightful.

Raven and her mother, meanwhile, are in a predicament. Armed guards surround them as they try to figure out why they’re there, and how they arrived. Raven has trouble recalling her soul-self, seemingly because she doesn’t have the use of her powers right now. This could certainly be a problem!

The RAVEN: DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS #5 creative team includes writer Marv Wolfman, penciler and inker Pop Mhan, colorist Lovern Kindzierski, and letterer Saida Temofonte.

RAVEN: DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS #5 hits shelves May 30th. Until then, check out ComicsVerse’s exclusive preview below!
