The road to “Drowned Earth” begins here, in the pages of AQUAMAN #41! Following the most recent issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE, Aquaman is missing and the Earth has been flooded! With the arrival of an alien armada came a group of extraterrestrial sea gods. Despite once coming to Earth’s aid in past, these deities are only interested now in drowning our planet in their toxic waters.

What’s worse, any living thing the purple sludge touches turns into a horrific aquatic creature, seemingly driven only by a desire to cause harm! So once again the Earth has been thrown into peril, and only the League can save it. That is if whichever members still remain can survive!

Somewhere, Beyond The Sea

So the first few pages of AQUAMAN #41 showcase Lan Medina, Vicente Cifuentes, and Gabe Eltaeb’s artistic chops. The visuals are equal parts gorgeous and horrifying, starting the issue a delightful scene of the Atlanteans playing in the sea before they transform into a terrifying band of beasts! When Mera arrives to save the day in the last page, everything about this page is immediately captivating. From the epic effect of the splashing sea to the way the sunlight practically shines off her costume, it’s a visual treat for the eyes!

Dan Abnett definitely has a daunting task before him. Setting the tone for DC’s next major event, especially after the massive popular reception of DARK NIGHTS: METAL and JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE, is no easy feat. Fortunately, since the stakes rise almost immediately, it’s clear Abnett isn’t dawdling.

So this looks to be an exciting new storyline, and a unique one as well! I mean, in a world of powerful aliens and mystic monstrosities, when have the League ever had to deal with a flood before? Before the AQUAMAN #41 proper arrives on October 17th, whet your appetite with this exclusive first look at AQUAMAN #41 below!
