Comic Book Writer - Greg Rucka

The latest episode of the ComicsVerse podcast is here! This time, we’re joined by a bonafide legend in the comic book industry — Greg Rucka!

Few comic book creators have a career as prolific as Greg Rucka’s career. He’s written nearly every major character that exists between Marvel and DC Comics, has created some of the best creator-owned series to date (LAZARUS, BLACK MAGICK, QUEEN & COUNTRY), has won numerous awards for these works, and most recently wrote the very first in-continuity post RETURN OF THE JEDI STAR WARS comic book for Marvel Comics in STAR WARS: SHATTERED EMPIRE!

Comicsverse Editor-In-Chief Travis Czap, Matthew Murphy, Kevin (from Kevin’s Comics on Youtube) and Chief Operating Officer, Sean Bartley (that’s me!), had an in-depth conversation with Greg about some of his classic works, but the bulk of the conversation stemmed far beyond the content of the comics he has created.

During this candid conversation, Greg Rucka discussed the challenges of publishing LAZARUS, as well as some of the terrifying real-world inspirations behind the story of the hit comic book series. He also talked at length about his ten years as a writer for DC where he wrote highly praised series’ such as GOTHAM CENTRAL and DETECTIVE COMICS starring Batwoman.

As long and as deep as this conversation was, it felt as though we’d never run out of things to talk about and, time permitting, could have spoken all night about not only Rucka’s stellar career, but the deep sociopolitical issues that are so deeply relevant right now and serve as major inspirations for LAZARUS.
