There are dreams, and then there are nightmares. THE DREAMING #4 seems to be leaning towards the later.

So far in THE DREAMING, Lucien and the other citizens of their realm have been living with the absence of their ruler and creator, Dream. Yet, until recently, Lucien was the only one aware of that fact. Then, in THE DREAMING #3, Judge Gallows turned their world upside down.

Gallows attacked Dora and waged war on the “soggies.” So, when Lucien objected to this violence, Gallows revealed his secret. Now, at the start of this issue, we follow Cain as he tries to solve a mystery of his own.

Entering Darkness with Death Himself

Courtesy of DC Entertainment and Vertigo, ComicsVerse is able to bring you an exclusive preview of THE DREAMING #4!

Cain noticed his brother, Abel’s, strange behavior during the last issue. As a result, in these preview pages, he searches for whatever finally gave Abel some stability. Cain hears a mysterious voice call to him. He shares his mission with said voice, explaining that the bumbling Abel is now coherent.

They both look on as Abel mans the gates of the Dreaming, keeping any unwanted beings out. He even confronts a demon who attempted to smuggle himself in with a human. Because of this newfound boldness, Cain is furious. He believes that his brother is being used. The voice, however, accuses Cain of being jealous, just as he was during the ancient story about the two brothers.

As Gallows sends the demon away, the voice explains that most everyone will soon understand their role in what’s happening in the Dreaming. The rest will be dead.
