The official website for the film BUNGO STRAY DOGS: DEAD APPLE has released the feature’s second trailer. The movie has a March 3rd release date scheduled so the timing of this couldn’t be better!

BUNGO STRAY DOGS is a manga and anime created by Kafka Asagiri. The story is that of Atsushi Nakajima, who becomes the suspect of a series of wrongdoings at the orphanage where he lives. After being evicted, Atsushi becomes homeless. But one day, Atsushi saves the eccentric Osamu Dazai from drowning. Dazai reveals himself to be a supernatural detective who works for the Armed Detective Agency. As a result of increasingly weird events, Atsushi is forced into joining Dazai at the ADA. The two work alongside a cast of interesting co-workers, each with special powers. Atsushi discovers that his own power is the ability to transform into a white tiger, though he can’t summon it at will.

The movie is an all-new story in this world. Asagiri himself has cooperated in the writing process, which is great news for fans of the original story. The movie begins with the apparent suicides of 500 people, all with special powers. However, while the Armed Detective Agency begins their investigation, Osamu Dazai mysteriously goes missing.

Happy Valentines Day BUNGO STRAY DOGS Fans

Loosely translated, BUNGO STRAY DOGS’ official tweet says that they are giving their fans a present for Valentines Day in the form of this updated trailer. Lucky us!

In addition, the tweet mentions that the new clip has been created by a veteran company called 10GAUGE. 10GAUGE has handled many other PV’s (promotional videos) in the past including the original BUNGO STRAY DOGS, MY HERO ACADEMIA, and the famously successful YOUR NAME. There are no subtitles, which might disappoint some English speakers; however, fans of the anime will be excited to see these fresh images of their favorite characters like Atsushi Nakajima and Osamu Dazai. Check it out for yourself in this HD version of the trailer:

Right away there are a few notable differences between the first trailer and this one. First, the new PV is 30 seconds longer. While both contain amazing visuals and heart-pounding action, the new trailer has more of a narrative feel to it. The clips are more structured and give us more of the plot. The new villain, Tatsuhiko Shibusawa, appears more often in this trailer, as well.

The music in the trailer is the song “Deadly Drive,” by the musical duo GRANRODEO. This single will be available for purchase on February 21st. Also, fans of the BUNGO STRAY DOGS anime might recognize them as the group that performed “Trash Candy,” the opening theme for the show’s first season. You can watch the first trailer for the film in the link below.

Just a Few More Months

This updated trailer is definitely a welcome sight for fans of the anime. While the theatrical release is only a month away for Japan, the west will have to wait a while longer to get access to the film.

In the meantime, this trailer serves to whet our appetites a little bit. Seeing just how action packed this movie is going to be makes me very excited. It also gives us an update on the plot of the upcoming movie, which appears to stay true to the spirit of the original two seasons of the show.

For the rest of the story, we’re just going to have to wait. Hopefully, this small taste is enough to sustain us until then.
