On February 16th, BAYONETTA 1 and 2 are coming to the Switch, available on the Nintendo eShop. According to Nintendo, if you buy either game, the other will be available at a discount.

Released in 2009, BAYONETTA is a hack-and-slash action game about a “butt-kicking, havoc-wreaking witch” (yes, this is the official description). She uses guns, blades, and even her hair to destroy hordes of supernatural enemies.

Yes, she’s fighting a boss while surfing on floating water. This woman is awesome.

The game received critical acclaim for its fluid action, over-the-top style, and insane boss fights. Its sequel, released in 2014, received similar praise, upping the ante even further. The game’s art style is delightfully strange, featuring modern cities, abstract dimensions, and heavy Biblical themes. Both games feature the eponymous witch, who has driven both praise and controversy for her cool demeanor and seductive personality. Imagine if Lara Croft had magic and you’ll get a good idea of what this character is all about.

Our Thoughts on BAYONETTA

While both games have been out for years, bringing them to the switch allows for a new experience. The platform’s mobility really adds a new dimension to the gameplay, and I can’t wait to take these titles on the go. Though to be fair, BAYONETTA isn’t exactly the sort of game I’d want to play in public.

Either way, both games deserve their praise, and I look forward to playing them once again. What we really need, though, is a new BAYONETTA. The Switch is already on a winning streak with a slew of great games released over the past year. Another BAYONETTA would be the perfect way to keep this trend going, attracting even more people to the console. I, for one, would love to see where this series goes next.

Both games are available for pre-order now.
