The God of Thunder experiences a significant cosmetic change during the events of THOR: RAGNAROK. But anyone who took a close look at an early poster for next year’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, which was released at San Diego Comic-Con in July, would have known this spoiler months ahead of the film’s release.

The Spoiler Revealed by the INFINITY WAR Poster

In THOR: RAGNAROK, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) loses his right eye when he fights Hela (Cate Blanchett) toward the end of the film. As a result, he gets an eyepatch, aligning his look with that of old King Thor, who first appeared in THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #1 by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic. (Our Thor also becomes King of Asgard by the end of the film.) This eyepatch, or an eyepatch, is present on the SDCC INFINITY WAR poster.

The poster positions Thor with his left side facing us, his right away. At a glance, with everything else happening on the poster, he looks completely intact. But upon closer inspection, it’s clear that that’s not the case.

Computer, enhance.

An incredibly subtle spoiler. Unless Thor has his eye closed in the face of danger and the light is hitting his eyelid just so. (Image via Marvel Studios/Ryan Meinerding.)

The size and amount of Thor’s eyepatch showing here could easily mean its inclusion was deliberate or accidental. Given Marvel’s usual aversion to spoilers, though, it doesn’t seem likely that they’d show it on purpose. Disney representatives declined to comment when ComicsVerse inquired about the eyepatch being on the poster, which was painted by Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding.

With RAGNAROK in theaters and Thor wearing his eyepatch in Wednesday’s INFINITY WAR trailer, the fate of Thor’s right eye is now pretty much known. But it’s cool that such a big spoiler reveal went unnoticed, whether it was intentional or not.
