Young Obama

Wow, are we receiving some cool storylines this week on the Arrowverse! First of all, and (most crucially) we are meeting a young Obama in LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. The psychic gorilla Grodd seems to want to kill this young Obama. Why is that? I don’t know but I love Grodd and I love Obama so I’m happy.

Then in BLACK LIGHTNING, Jefferson Pierce becomes a martyr for a greater cause while in jail. Finally, in ARROW, Diggle and Oliver have another beef as they seemingly quarrel over who will wear the cowl in the future.

Read ahead for more details and previews about what’s happening in the Arrowverse this week!

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 3 Episode 17: “Guest Starring John Noble”

This week’s episode of LEGENDS OF TOMORROW is Season 3, episode 17. Titled, “Guest Starring John Noble”, this episode will do just that: John Noble will be guest starring. What’s interesting however is that while John Noble has been the voice of the season big bad Mallus, he not be Mallus. John Noble will be playing himself: Actor John Noble. It’s the sort of thing that the only LOT could pull off.

According to the synopsis, The Legends will be trying to stop two anachronisms at the same time. Rip (Arthur Darvill) returns to help Sara (Caity Lotz) stop Grodd (David Sobolov) from going after a particular target. Meanwhile, Nate (Nick Zano) and Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) will try to stop Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) from changing her future.

Based on the promo, we know that Rip is calling on the Legends for backup, as it appears that Grodd’s target is none other than Barack Obama! Grodd goes into the young Obama’s room, and it definitely looks like Grodd has some sort of issue. The Legends spring into action with Sara announcing that they are on “Obama care.”

The promo highlights a tagline that reads  “Make America Grodd Again.” and the promo ends with young Obama picked up by Grodd by his throat. As for John Noble, it looks like we’ll have to tune in to see how the former LORD OF THE RINGS star fits into all of this.

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW airs Monday, 8/7c on the CW.

BLACK LIGHTNING Season 1 Episode 11: “Black Jesus: The Book of Crucifixion”

Oh my God! There are only three more episodes of BLACK LIGHTNING left! And speaking of God, this episode is called “Black Jesus: The Book of Crucifixion.” This will find Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) held prisoner by the sinister ASA who believe (rightfully) that is Black Lightning. The image of a beaten up, downtrodden Jefferson Pierce resonates with the viewers. It instantly reminds us of images of Martin Luther King Jr from his imprisonment.

Much like MLK, the ASA is wrongfully holding Jefferson in custody just to send a message to Gambi (James Remar). It is fascinating that the ASA has emerged as the main villains of this season. Much like the FBI of J.Edgar Hoover’s day, the ASA are an unscrupulous organization that focus on the ends and don’t wince at the corrupt means they utilize to accomplish them.

BLACK LIGHTING: What Anissa Pierce Means for Activists

Of course, this image of Jefferson Pierce, the friendly community principal, suffering in prison merely because of suspicion will surely rile up the community in Freeland. That is why Gambi and Anissa (Nafessa Williams) attempt to convince Freeland that Black Lightning is still on the streets. They hope this will lead to the people of Freeland demanding the release of Pierce. Will they be successful? Or will Anissa AKA Thunder have to save Freeland by herself for now?

BLACK LIGHTNING Airs Monday at 9/8c only on the CW

ARROW Season 6 Episode 17: “Brothers in Arms”

This week’s episode of ARROW is Season 6, episode 17. Titled “Brothers in Arms,” this episode will see Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Diggle (David Ramsey) facing their biggest challenge yet. Curtis (Echo Kellum) will also be disappointed to find out his new boyfriend has a firm anti-vigilante stance, which can’t bode well for their relationship.

While the promo reveals nothing about Curtis’ situation, it does show what Oliver and Diggle’s biggest challenge will be: themselves. It looks as though stepping in and becoming the Green Arrow meant more to Diggle than Oliver realized. This will lead to conflict between the two of them.

In the promo, Diggle says he’s tired of Oliver stringing him along. He says that being Green Arrow meant a lot to him. Oliver tells Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) that Diggle would never get bent out of shape about a simple uniform. It looks like he’s very wrong.

ARROW airs this Thursday, 8/7c on the CW.
