Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr Marvel plans a major shake up after SECRET EMPIRE. The comics giant will follow the massive event with MARVEL LEGACY #1, a fifty-page issue set for release in September. Marvel’s full intentions remain shrouded, but they have made it clear they want to look at their history and shift focus towards their classic heroes. The comics will return to a cumulative numbering system, as well. Some especially relevant images from the book make one thing very clear. MARVEL LEGACY #1 by writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic, in addition to answering many questions, features the very, very first Avengers team… Avengers 1,000,000 B.C. READ: Before seeing the first Iron Fist, learn about the ancient city Iron Fist hails from! The Future is in The Past Marvel announced this first issue on July 28th, with a major press release: “MARVEL LEGACY #1 introduces the AVENGERS OF 1,000,000 BC – and that’s only the opening of the most important comic story of the year! PLUS! WHO SENT THE CALL FROM PLANET HULK? WHAT IS HUNTING FOR THE INFINITY STONES? WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CAPTAIN AMERICA? WHEN WILL THOR FIGHT THE WAR OF REALMS? WHY DOES JEAN GREY JOURNEY TO CANADA? and… HOW HAS THE BODY OF IRON MAN DISAPPEARED? Featuring THOR, IRONHEART, CAPTAIN AMERICA, JEAN GREY, IRON MAN, DEADPOOL, THE THING, ODINSON, DEADPOOL, LOKI, GHOST RIDER, DOCTOR STRANGE, THE HUMAN TORCH, GAMORA, IRON FIST, AND PRACTICALLY EVERY MARVEL CHARACTER EVER. MYSTERIES! RETURNS! INFINITE POSSIBILITIES! Make Mine Marvel this fall, with MARVEL LEGACY #1!” This opens a huge realm of questions for Marvel fans, and therefore should get everyone to the shops in September. The main focus remains on the first Avengers (who grace the cover), with images circulating across the internet. The team comprises early versions of established Marvel heroes Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, Phoenix, Black Panther, Starbrand, Agamotto, and Odin. The timeframe means the characters are quite different from their current incarnations… Imagine this guy riding a fiery MAMMOTH…image courtesy of Marvel Entertainment That may be the best part of this book, though. Potential and Reassurance That change stands to explain quite a bit. Beings like Odin and Ghost Rider are supernatural and are ages old. MARVEL LEGACY #1 shows them at much earlier points. The issue has the potential to show these largely secretive characters developed into the beings we know them as today. Seeing Phoenix gain its cosmic power or Odin acting before he became wise are mysteries well worth uncovering. Due to this, these past iterations shine new lights onto their current versions. Courtesy of Marvel Entertainment Other characters like Iron Fist, Black Panther, and Agamotto establish their legacies here. Modern heroes T’Challa (Black Panther) and Danny Rand (Iron Fist) act as the latest in a chain of heroes. They know Dr. Strange wears the Eye of Agamotto, but now they can see the rest of Agamotto. As a result, this book holds the secret of how those legacies were formed. Most noteworthy are the questions readers can now have answered. What was the first Black Panther like? How did the first Iron First channel such immense power? What allowed Agamotto to master the early magic? In the same way as their teammates, these heroes stand to define their modern counterparts in a new way. READ: What has the modern Black Panther been up to? Take a look in our review of BLACK PANTHER #13! The past incarnations seem to carry something else as well — some reassurance. Many fans worried that Marvel’s new direction would undo their previous work with minority representation. Marvel created new heroes like Ms. Marvel and America Chavez; consequently, losing that creative drive would be a shame. MARVEL LEGACY #1 showcases, opposite to that fear, the first Black Panther and shows the first Iron Fist as a woman. While it’s not certain, this hopefully goes a long way towards Marvel balancing its minority heroes with its classic ones. Promising Future For MARVEL LEGACY #1 In conclusion, MARVEL LEGACY #1 brings up a lot of questions. Marvel’s new direction seems to be holding steady though. The issue showcases especially relevant questions, and most of all shows what promises to be a new classic super team. Fingers crossed Marvel starts off on the right foot next month.
