In these dark times it is important to remember that there is still a place for truth and justice. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s classic hero Superman represents the perfect vessel of hope even in the 21st century.  That is why it is so exciting that DC is celebrating the 80th anniversary of Superman with their milestone comic ACTION COMICS #1000 in April.

DC recognizes the magnitude of this milestone issue and is including some of its most talented classic and new writers. The long list includes DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns (GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH), Paul Dini (SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES), Tom King (MISTER MIRACLE), and Scott Snyder (DARK NIGHTS METAL).

Among these fascinating details, this milestone will mark the  debut DC comic for Brian Michael Bendis. Bendis is set to take over the SUPERMAN line after Peter J. Tomasi will finish his run. Both Peter J. Tomasi and Dan Jurgens (THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN), who are both currently writing Superman-themed series, will heavily contribute to ACTION COMICS #1000.

The most noteworthy contribution has to come from Richard Donner, the legendary director of the original SUPERMAN starring Christopher Reeves. It was Richard Donner who famously made the world “believe a man can fly.” Donner can inject some of the classic Silver Age optimism that came along with Christopher Reeve’s Superman. Meanwhile, the exceptional Marv Wolfman will script a story based on unseen content from Curt Swan. Swan is famous for crafting what many fans call the definitive look of Superman during the Silver Age of Comics. In addition, to honor Swan’s work, ACTION COMICS #1000 will bring back Superman’s classic red trunks into the DC Universe.

All of these collaborations make ACTION COMICS #1000 an extraordinary comic book event for DC. It will unite creators and fans alike in their appreciation of the Man of Steel. It will honor Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s place in creating the superhero genre as we know it today. Finally, ACTION COMICS #1000 promises to be a celebration of comics and their long and varied history.
